Perfect introduction, Susanna! It gives us background knowledge and context to understand PR in Egypt better :)

Clarifying facts Susanna. I'll be writing about Ethiopia and I was also wondering what kind of PR exists in a country that has the literacy rate of 42.7 (same source - CIA)!

I took a course here in Jyväskylä during which a guest lecture professor Ángeles Moreno gave us examples of PR activities in Mexico among illiterate communities. They use more visuals, TV and radio, for example. Seems like a real challenge for communication managers who take it for granted that people can read and write!

Yes Tiiu, the PR must really be different from our practices. According to Statistics mondiales (http://www.statistiques-mondiales.com/en/ethiopia.htm) there are only 6 televisions / 1 000 inhabitants (2001) in Ethiopia. Other interesting media facts can be read at Nationmaster’s page (http://www.nationmaster.com/country/et-ethiopia/med-media).
